FEQUENLDY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY SHOULD YOU CALIBRATE YOUR FLOWMETER?

Flow instrumentation is critical to ensure repeatable process results. Unfortunately, during the life of a flow meter, its performance will degrade slowly over time. According to many published papers, there are several reasons why a flow meter falls out of calibration. The most common ones are:

- Physical modification may occur from corrosion or dirt from the process
-

Internal parts and elastomer degrade slowly and will eventually have an impact on meter’s performance

- Flow meter may receive mechanical or pneumatic impact resulting from important process variation or contamination

-

Flow meter’s performance may be altered by improper installation or initialization or during start-up procedure

A proper calibration of your instruments allows you to:

-

Obtain process consistency and repeatability

-

Eliminate subtle changes in product quality or yield

-

Reduce unscheduled equipment breakdowns

-

Minimize consumable costs

-

Resolve early minor problems

-

Transfer your process from one production tool to another without affecting your process integrity during transition

- Allow instrument interchange ability without affecting your process
-

Meet ISO 9001 requirements

WHEN SHOULD YOU CALIBRATE YOUR FLOWMETERS?

Calibration schedule varies from one industry to another. In most cases, instruments should be calibrated once a year. Although, if you are using a new meter or one located in an hostile environment, it is recommended that you calibrate it every six months, until you get an accurate "footprint" of the meter. You may then switch to yearly calibrations. Also, for companies requiring FDA approval, it is recommended to calibrate your instruments at the beginning of each batch or every six months.

WHY SHOULD I WORK WITH POLYCONTROLS?

Unlike other types of calibration, flow calibration requires to pass a known quantity of fluid through the meter with specialized traceable equipment, as well as skilled flow expertise. Working with a flow-focused metrology laboratory guarantees the quality of your calibrations.

In addition, working with Polycontrols’ metrology laboratory, you will get:

-

A personalized and customer-oriented service

- The highest standards in flow calibration
-

A fast turnaround time service

-

Assistance with equipment problems and breakdowns

-

Support with process-related problems and emergency situations
